I usually only feature free resources on The English Blog but I thought I would make an exception for Myngle, which is a new language learning service. This is how they describe it on their website's FAQ:
What is Myngle.com?
Myngle is the online global marketplace for foreign language learning where the use of voice over the internet is central to providing the lessons. With voice over internet, language teachers can give live-lessons sitting in front of their computer to students located in any part of the world, who will be following the classes from their own computer. Myngle will offer the right solution by providing students, individual teachers and language schools from all over the world with a complete online language instruction platform.
What is the setup of Myngle.com?
The platform will be offered in 2 complementary models: MyngleMarket and MyngleSchools.
- MyngleMarket will be an open and free market exchange, where any individual teachers (various levels) will be selling language lessons (and related materials) to prospective students.
- MyngleSchools will be entities offering foreign language education with high quality standards. These could be schools offering their content or groups of teachers who share the same methodology and pedagogical approach. MyngleSchools are a closed number per language, and are selected and approved by Myngle; additional schools will be put on waiting list. Schools that qualify for becoming MyngleSchools can have their branded presence in the MyngleSchools section for free.
It will be interesting to see if this idea catches on...
