According to a YouGov survey released earlier this week, Google is now the UK's leading brand, replacing last year's winner Microsoft. Notable results include The Royal Albert Hall at number 26 and The Eden Project in Cornwall at number 50. It's now clear that virtually anything can become a brand. The English Blog didn't make it into the top 500 this year but following its recent success in topping the Lexiophiles survey of language blogs, I have high hopes for next year! See this Guardian article for more details of the survey.
Ideas for teachers: why not get students to vote for their favourite brands. Or give them a list of brands they have to rank in order according to certain criteria e.g. coolest brand, most trustworthy brand, most unreliable brand etc.
