Movie of the Week: Changeling
It's been a wet Saturday here in Le Havre - ideal weather for going to the cinema. But what to see? W, Oliver Stone's film about Bush has had poor reviews so I thought I'd go and see Changeling, the new Clint Eastwood (though the reviews for that have been pretty mixed - only 56% on the Tomatometer).
Angelina Jolie stars as Christine Collins, a single mother working in 1928 Los Angeles when her son goes missing. A boy is returned to her months later by the police, but she is upset when she realizes that the boy isn't her son (or is he?)
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the consensus is: 'beautifully shot and well-acted, Changeling is a compelling story that unfortunately gives in to convention too often'. I'd go along with that. The reconstitution of 1920s Los Angeles is impressive and the first half of the film is quite gripping but it loses its way in the second half and, like many films, would have been better had it been 20-30 minutes shorter. Angelina Jolie was very good, however. Official site >>
Anyway, here's the trailer:
