2008 has not been a good year for Yahoo! and on Monday their co-founder and CEO Jerry Yang stepped down. However, this week has also seen the launch of a new search tool called Yahoo! Glue and the good news is that it's pretty impressive.
When it comes to search engines, I must admit to being rather lazy. Like the majority of people, I stick with Google even though I know there are plenty of interesting alternatives. But Yahoo! Glue is different enough from Google to make it a serious competitor for certain types of search.
Rather than the traditional list of blue links, Yahoo! Glue brings in results in three different panes, both from Yahoo! and elsewhere. They can be images, videos, Wikipedia entries, HowStuffWorks entries, sports stats, and news, and results from other sources. Here's what I got when I searched for 'Sarah Palin':
