This cartoon by Andy Davey from The Sun shows what we can assume is a British woman phoning the Foreign Office helpline from disaster-torn Japan (we can see the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant through the window). However, the helpline is not very helpful. The woman just gets a recorded message telling her to press 1 or 2 according to the type of crisis she is caught up in.
COMMENTARY
The cartoon can be seen as a comment of the crisis management skills (or lack of them) displayed by the UK's Foreign Office when responding to recent crises. Foreign Secretary William Hague was criticized over his handling of the Libyan situation and there has even been talk of resignation (see articles here and here).
