Here's a cartoon I missed from last week as I was away for a couple of days. I thought I'd feature it as it's one of Steve Bell's best—a simple idea, brilliantly executed.
BACKGROUND
The cartoon refers to the story that has dominated the British press over the past week (especially The Guardian). During the G20 demonstrations in London, newspaper vendor Ian Tomlinson, who was not part of the protests, collapsed and died from a heart attack shortly after being assaulted from behind by a policeman. At first, the police denied any involvement, but amateur video footage later proved otherwise.

CARTOON
Steve Bell's cartoon is based on the official G20 summit poster. The globe has become a policeman's riot shield and the slogan Stability|Growth|Jobs has been changed to the heavily ironic New|World|Order (one of Gordon Brown's favourite expressions). In the foreground lies a body. A powerful image indeed.
